AVG is a great utillity that I use all the time. But I don't know what it has to do with Euphoria.

Uh, isn't he trying to alert us that various EUPHORIA DOWNLOADS show up to AVG as containing viruses? That's what his post has to do with Euphoria?
Almost certainly false positives, but can be worrisome at first?

AVG once deleted all my software at a customer site (250 programs). I had to re-install and remove AVG.

Yes, AVG will remove anything it sees as a problem...whether it is or not. If you download the Archive zips to study them or use them you soon find that they are gone, almost before you can blink, due to AVG.
Found two more zips in Archive it complains about:
forthec14.zip
semus3.zip
My question is: Is there anything in Euphoria, as a Language, or a programming technique encouraged by using Euphoria, that results in an AVG false positive?
(Especially something that Euphoria 4.0 could fix? Or a technique that could be avoided?)

I have nothing good to say about AVG. My experience has not been favourable and if you read the literature, AVG is one which has a history of being troublesome.
My advice is to change over to something more reliable, e.g. Avast, BitDefender, Kaspersky, or Nod32. Do your research first, of course, remembering that success in detecting viruses is not the only criteria for evaluation.
My question is: Is there anything in Euphoria, as a Language, or a programming technique encouraged by using Euphoria, that results in an AVG false positive?
Aren't most, if not all of these contain just text (source code)files? If its the ZIP itself that AVG can't handle then get rid of AVG.

I think it might be related to compressed .exe files, e.g. programs that were bound to an old compressed .exe Euphoria interpreter.

I just downloaded forthec14.zip and semus3.zip.
I scanned both of them and found NO problems with either.
My virus program is automatically updated daily.
This is the virus program that I use which has a free home edition.

I have used AVG on my machine for 5 years perhaps. It has reliably detected everything I knew it had to detect, and indeed gives off a couple false positives once in a while. It never removes anything on its own, giving you the option to ignore, quarantine, clean (if possible) or remove the supposedly offending file. You should probably run it in expert mode, this may be the issue.
Using the free edition, v8.2.0.336. Perhaps the alternatives you mentioned are better, but I haven't had any identifiable virus on my system for several years while being downloading quite actively on the Internet.

Idem CChris. I've downloaded forthec14.zip and make AVG checked it. It says forthec14.exe is infected but it hasn't deleted the file because AVG is configured to not delete infected files unless I want it to do so.

I recently changed to Eset NOD32 after an infection that overwhelmed AVG. A full scan with NOD32 found all sorts on my computer that had obviously slipped past AVG (which was being updated daily).
Did you see this: http://www.computerweekly.com/Articles/2008/11/12/233350/avg-security-update-cripples-windows-xp-machines.htm . Nice to see AVG do such rigorous testing before releasing to the general public.

I found a fun site that lets you upload a suspected file and it scans the file with 37 anti-virus programs.
I haven't tried it with all the ones AVG complained about but some of those I did the site's AVG version had no trouble with. The site uses AVG Version 8.0.199 My AVG say 8.0.175. I'll Have to update. Again.
Thanks All. BroGeorge.
