>Look Now In the New Version Of Euphoria.... >You Cant Compile Projects...AND That SUX. Euphoria ain't compiled boy! Bind simple appends your source code to the end of a copy of ex(w).exe. >I Cant Buy The Retail Version Of Euphoria >Don't Care..Just Let Me Compile.. Why do you need to create exe files? For pesonal use you can deal with a BAT file. BTW Have you heard of RDS's microeconomy? If you contribute some cool/useful thing (routine, library, whatever) to the Euphoria comunity people can vote "virtual" money to you... That money is credited to you by RDS upon purchase... enough votes and you get your free copy! Regards, Daniel Berstein daber at pair.com

Okay, everybody on the list send me $2 per month. Every month we'll have a drawing and purchase a copy of EUPHORIA for some lucky poor boy... I think it's the least we can do to help get EUPHORIA into the hands of "damn poor kids." I'm serious! E-mail me for my address. Not to sound harsh or cruel, but RDS is not a charity. It does expect some sort of payment if you plan to use Euphoria for a period longer than a reasonable evaluation. The cost RDS is asking for is reasonable, certainly cheaper then a computer game ($59.99 Cdn and higher)...and you can write your own games!!!! I quote from the README.DOC: "People can use Euphoria for as long as they like without obligation. We make money from those who start to seriously develop large applications, and want to get the latest release, technical support and enhanced bind, profile, and debug support for large programs." I know next to nothing about the shareware business, but I think this is a very sensible policy and I applaud Rob's latest move to gradually lift restrictions on debugging, while shifting emphasis to binding/compilation. jiri

I am beginning to get suspicious. Irv

Perhaps too liberal. What I would like to see are some of those "seriously large applications" mentioned above. Where are they? Anybody writing one? How can RDS make much money until there are some? At any rate, compare Euphoria to any other software you may have lying around: Microsoft's shrink wrapped "agreement", for example, which generally states (paraphrased): We don't guarantee that there is anything on this disk, or that there isn't, nor that it may or may not be suitable for any purpose now known or yet to be imagined. If there happens to be something on this disk, it's not our fault. Either way, you don't own it, but are only licensed to try to get our bugs out. You may make one copy which must immediately be burned. If you give up in frustration, you must return all software, hardware, sleepware, and underware that may or may not be part of this package. You may not tell anyone living or dead how slowly this software runs, under penalty of law... By touching, looking at or walking past this package, you hereby agree to abide by all these and any other conditions our overpaid and underworked lawyers were able to dream up... Irv

The "Damn Poor Kid" said (if I recall) that the problem is that he wishes to compile Euphoria programs. Someone pointed out that getting a registered copy can't solve the difficulty, since the registered version will not support compilation, nor can it. Euphoria is an interpreted language. As it is, one can get a working copy of Euphoria for free. I don't see what the problem is. Cheers! --Warren

Dear Warren, I would argue that when a program is bound using BIND to create a .EXE file anyone who received the prog would assume it was an 'executable'; it doesn't need any other external files to run nor the interpretor ( it's all bundled into the .EXE ). Would we say a Java Applet is an executable ? All depends on how one looks at it. I don't want to start a flame war on what is or isn't a true executable or we'll be arguing over whether 80x86 code is interpreted by microcode etc etc. I don't think that The Poor Kid realised that he didn't need to create a .EXE file and could do it all with .BAT files; I too made the same mistake when v2.1 was first announced without BIND thrown in - And I, allegedly, know what I'm doing as a prof. programmer !

Okay, then make it a dollar... OR, I'll give away more than one copy. Or $2 will fund three months of giving away stuff. There's no profit-motive on my part. I just thought it would be fun/neat to do for people. I've already purchased my copies of EUPHORIA... :) See ya, ck
