This forum needs a search capability other than Days old use of google. There are times when I would like to search for something someone else has stated recently that I had missed. I get wind of the conversation but don't know where it is. They many days old search of google is not feasible for obtaining the desired information until the conversation has long been forgotten.

Agreed. Why don't you write one? Who were you expecting to do the work?

I must agree with Unkmar.
The google search seems completely broken and most of the time the returned results don't lead back to the original posts.
I am guessing the backend database is something like mysql. It shouldn't be too hard if full text search has been enabled. I seem to remember a while back there was something like this before the decision was taken to switch to Google.
At the same time I see that jeremy has just updated EuWeb again so perhaps things will get better (when he works out the errors its currently throwing for me) :)
The forum is pretty vital.
Thanks again to everyone who puts in so much work. Nothing above is intended as a criticism - just a suggestion.

I'll whip that right up. I'll even use euphoria. Oh wait, what is this .etml thing and how are these pages even working? What is the database layout? Hmm, seems I'll have to do lots of research just to get started. No big deal. I'm sure there are docs to explain where and what everything is.

Anyone wishing to get started with euweb, I'll help them out. It's pretty easy, especially when you get a data dump of the MySQL database server. However, you do have to use 4.0. I have helped others get up and running with euweb in very little time, in fact, the news module was written by Euphoric in a few hours from scratch. It's pretty easy to use.

Oh, the etml thing and how it runs is explained in detail in the mini-guide about the pre-processor as well as in the documentation in the demo/preproc directory distributed with anything 4.0b1 and up.

Maybe the search problem is much easier to solve.
Google still has on its index all the old style format urls:
http://openeuphoria.org/EUforum/index.cgi?module=forum&action=message&id=103387
Whereas the new format is something like:
http://openeuphoria.org/forum/108540.wc?last_id=108658
I cant work out how to translate one from the other. In other words replacing the '108540' in the last example with '103387' throws an "/home/listfilt/public_html/../euphoria-4.0b1/include/std/search.e:491 in function find_replace() type_check failure, haystack is 100090 "
Perhaps euweb could recognise the old format urls and do the necessary translation?

Hmmmm ... I apologize. You must have caught me at a bad moment.
I interpreted your original post incorrectly. I thought you were saying something along the lines of "I want such-and-such. Make it happen!". In other words, that you were making a demand that someone (presumably the current volunteer developers) to instantly drop whatever they are doing and meet your want.
I obviously got that totally wrong and I am sorry.
But given that was my mindset at that time, my response was meant to indicate that the people developing this web site are doing so on their own time and that even though your request is a good one, the developers can't possibly expected to whip one up for you right here and now. That in fact, it might be a good idea if you had a go at building a search function for the website. I know you are an excellent Euphoria coder and problem solver, so I assumed you'd be happy to try your hand at this task.
So for a third time, let me apologize for getting your original post so wrong.

Is this now deployed?
