I store my background(s) in a Virtual screen (a 2D sequence) and I "draw" my sprites into it, then when all my sprites are drawn, I take the parts that should be changed and draw them to the video screen. I think we go over that in 2 or 3 lessons. I also explain it in gross detail in the OidZone source explaination line by line through my code.
