Subscripting/slicing of general expressions, rather than just variables, is on my list, but it's pretty far down the list. It would take some effort to retrofit it, and I suspect I've made numerous subtle assumptions. Since you are inventing a new language, you have the luxury of starting with a clean sheet of paper, with no installed base of user-written code to support, no users to support, little existing code of your own to maintain etc... Someone once said that God created the world in just seven days, because he started from scratch, with no installed base to support.
