1. Win 95+-
The day before Win 98 came out, I bought a new computer, which came
preloaded
with the latest version of Win 95.
I think, "now I can run Euphoria for Windows!" True.
I think, "by now, the bugs will be out of Win 95!" False.
Friends called last night. They had just loaded Win 98, and found it
unusable
due to a massive insect infestation.
If this trend continues, we can predict that Win 2000 won't even boot
up.
What 2 do for an operating system?

Troubleshooting Windows? Don't use blanks :)
To anybody interested in the Winsock project:
Just finished up writing functions to set up Winsock sockets. Last night I
wrote a simple server and a client and was able to get them to connect. I
also connected to my ftp server on my ISP. The true test will be after
writing the send and recv functions.

I'll only touch on the operating systems that you can reasonably expect
Euphoria to be ported to.
There are several other *free* operating systems worth considering. Linux is
obviously a strong contender. There are two major free projects out that are
attempting to put a "modern" desktop and software set together that are
seriously competitive with Win9x/NT: The K Desktop (KDE), and Gnome. The K
Desktop is us and running *now*, and would be working on my machine if I
wan't such a Unix moron. Gnome looks very cool but is far less complete, and
is a Gnu project.
FreeBSD is also a solid operating system, and rumor has it that it's *way*
cool. It's not Linux, but many of the Linux tools are being ported to it,
including KDE.
There is the GNU Hurd, but I've heard just about nothing about that.
All of the Unix-style OS's are possible candidates for a Euphoria port.
Freedows is an attempt to create an operating system based on the Mach
kernel. In theory, it should be able to dynamically link to appropriate
libraries and run code for several different OSs simultaneously - Win9x is
the first target OS. As of now, Freedows is just a bunch of specifications,
aimed at a first release somewhere near the end of the year.
I'll also mention that Ardi supplies a Mac emulator that can run a lot of
Mac binaries. With the imminant release of the iMac, I have renewed hope
that someday a Mac port of Euphoria will be available - even if I have to
write it myself.

Jesus C. is the offical keeper of the most current *release* version. An
early pre-alpha can be found on his homepage:
As soon as the basic socket functions are coded and tested, I'll shoot my
latest version to him for a project update. Main thing left to do right now
still is the send and recv functions. That should let people at least start
writing simple clients. The library is intended to interface with David
Cuny's Win32lib.
