Are you talking about creating an OS or something like a synthetic machine layer (like java or if anybody recalls the z-machine used by infocom to make all those text adventures that worked across platforms)? Basically you create a language/os that runs on this synthetic machine then all you have to do is write an emulator to run the synthetic machine on each platforms. It interprets something akin to bytecode or some language files so you could use the same language/bytecode regardless of the machine. BTW, Whatever happened to the Euphoria OS project? I really can't see how Eu can be an OS -- it's just a programming language specification with some interpreters to run it -- but I'm curious how people were trying to embed it as an integral part of the system.
