1. powerful encryption for all

Following is the README.1ST file of kryptonite v2.16. As there is a pile,
a pile of unread messages with the subject, I feel interest is high.
Please read the whole file. There is an errata which will only be
published here, now.

The file contains two sets of routines: my program and another one. The
combined .ZIP file is still small; download it and take a look. Of course
give me feedback!

The URL in the following text is wrong. Just go to Ralf's site and there
is a link on the top page. I believe that Ralf is kindly willing to give
those who have no web access (and can absolutely not get it in another way)
the archive by e-mail. Anyway, the correct URL is:

http://www.xs4all.nl/~nieuwen

After reading this file, please read KRYPTON.TXT.

What is Kryptonite?

Kryptonite is a file encryption program that has some unique
features.

* Kryptonite uses Blowfish, a strong and proven encryption
algorithm.
* Kryptonite can detect encrypted files that have been tampered
with, and it does not allow decryption if the password is
incorrect.
* This package is available to all in the world who want it,
despite its strength.

How to Get It

The author, an US citizen, is forbidden to distribute this
package. Therefore, Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen <nieuwen at xs4all.nl> in
the Netherlands is very generously offering this package at his
website:

URL: http://www.xs4all.nl/~nieuwen/chambers/development/
programming/encyption/krypton.zip

If you have no web access, and only if you really can't
get it on the web, you may send a brief e-mail message to him and
he will send the latest archive to you.

Author Information

This program was written by Alan Tu <atu5713 at compuserve.com>. In
order for it to be exportable, the length of the password can
only be one character. As a result, all a cracker would have to
do is to run the program on a particular file 256 times, and he
will open the file. Since this version is weak, e-mail me at
anytime if you desire it, and I will send it to you.

In the spirit of most Euphorians here, my program was open
source. However, Ralf Nieuwenhuijsen (again, in the Netherlands)
has modified the program to totally remove this restriction. So,
his website which I have no control over contains a program that
is very strong indeed.
