That goes for _anyone_.
There is a reason why I am not submitting this to the website.
This is an excerpt of the documentation.
Let's just say I believe in very civil, very
non-violent disobedience.
The US government forbids exporting of this program. The author
believes, however, that information security is not a weapon, and
that everyone is entitled to have strong information security.
Therefore, as long as the author has an e-mail address, this
package will be available to _anyone_ who wants it.

*sigh*
I would have to disagree with this decision, but, not for
most/any of the reasons listed thus far.
Firstly: you won't have an email address long Alan. *shrug*
There are watchdogs, and doing this will very likely land
you in prison, for a very long time. I disagree with this
decision because of this, because you are a good coder,
and a good person, and I would not like to see you in prison.
Secondly: there is more to consider here than just the export
regs. Doing this, over the listserv, potentially places
the listserv in jeopardy as well. There is very little difference
in this action of yours, from certain legal standpoints, as
what Nate did. The distribution of a destructive program
via mass media methods and the distribution of an illegal
program via mass media methods are both verboten. They carry
nearly the same penalty in most places. This means that
you will actually have 2 charges against you, potentially.
The breaking of the export reg AND illegal distribution.
Furthermore, the listserv can be shutdown for being the
instrument of the aforementioned illegal distribution,
if the watchdogs so choose.

I, for one, would be most saddened if any of the above came
to pass... especially since 56bit is *damned* strong and
legal to export... You have options that I feel would be
better choices than this one and these options would not
create events that would make our hearts heavy.

So, a formal plea to you to retract and rescind your
prior post, and alter it to not place anyone at risk,
especially yourself.

take care, and care of, indeed--Hawke'
