-------Phoenix-Boundary-07081998- Content-type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-transfer-encoding: Quoted-printable Hi, I've been working on a wrapper that let euphoria apps connect to mysql databases without the complexities of network programming or the overhead of many layers. MySQL has a client library and there's a dll available an in the public domain. MySQL its freeware on most cases but there are certain cases where you must pay but even on those its a small price. The wrapper is fully functional, I want to have a complete documentation and some help files, but I realized I'm not going to have free time to do this so I'm releasing what I have now. I uploaded the wrapper, dlls, a demo app and a page to xoom Comments and suggestions are welcome I hope you enjoy it, Fabio PS: in win98 there's some delay 8-10 sec on connection with this DLL ( I don't know why) but it works just fine after that. Default parameters in the demo app (FastQ) are to connect to a server in the Universidad del Valle (Where I work) Cali- Colombia. Our Internet link is slow so if it doesnt work you can test it with the win95 shareware mysql server available from www.tcx.se . ------------------------------------- Fabio Ramirez R. Hi Lee, I appreciate your comments and I pretend to keep working in the library. It feels good to have some recognition and I appreciate that you took the time to encourage me, that is something I almost never do even that I use a lot of other people's work. >Although it seems obvious... and rather sad... that no one on the Euphoria >mailing list is >particularly interested in your MySQL library ... I think that it is not lack of interest, it is just that it takes time to get involved with it and it depends on what people is working on. I realize that the need of a client-server environment to test it and the fact that MySQL is more known to people in the Unix world are factors that might delay the use or even test of the library. I've learned not to expect much response from others and to enjoy what I do knowing that it will be useful to other people. A few months ago when I decided to use euphoria I spent almost three weeks converting euphoria docs to a single help file, I did it because I wanted to have a handy manual that I like to use but on the way I thought that other people would like it and that it could help beginners (like me) to learn euphoria so I did a complete conversion. It was posted in August and I've received just one mail message of a grateful user, but I feel satisfied since I know many others are using it. I keep wondering what was so disappointing for Gary Dummer and I feel a little guilty because I think I unintentionally caused a fire, but besides that I think that he was going fast with VEL development and interpreted not having much feedback as lack of interest, what in my opinion was not true. I hope that Gary would reconsider to work on VEL again. I want to ask to list members courious about EMySQLib, some feedback if you find things can be better coded, or have some ideas of how to improve things. I hope to have a help file and demo programs by the end of January for a more decent release. ------------------------------------ Fabio Ramirez R. fabio_ramirez at flashmail.com -------Phoenix-Boundary-07081998---

I, for one, am actually in great need of a Euphoria MySQL wrapper. It'll save me having to do my current project in perl. Regards, Greg
