I havent replied to any particular message, because everyone has made a lot
of good points.
The trick is, even for us here in New Zealand, is to stop it happening in
the first place - just because they're not allowed to disable our
software/spy on our computers, doesn't mean they won't.
As for encryption, I can see peoples point that if you use something like
pgp, and they can already see into your computer, they can grab your private
key, and listen to key presses the next time you enter your password. What
we really need are TIGHT firewalls, with inbuilt encryption - any traffic
sent through the firewall is automatically encrypted (going out) or
decrypted (coming in), and these firewalls would need to do more than just
block specific ports - theres nothing stopping your copy of Windows 2002
using port 80 instead. Of course implementing any of this would be made
awfully difficult with the US's anti encryption laws...
