1. IDE

I'm back from vacation and there were several e-mails in my box asking
about the next release. So here is the answer for anyone also wanting to
know.

1. I've found some new bugs that need fixing.
2. I'm being sent some code that will allow IDE to create cascading
menus. This will be a neat addition and I want to include it in the next
release. The reason being the following release may be a while coming
because Code Editor is the primary target.

So I am thinking the release of version .10.4 will be at least another
week or two away.

Anyone wanting to beta test, please contact me.

Thanks,
Judith

Just wanted to say thanks to Judith for all the hard work on the IDE.
I downloaded the latest and it is starting to look very impressive.

Things are coming along well with win32lib and IDE.

Do such things exist for Linux or is that another project for someone?

3. Re: IDE

Hi, Mark,

Thanks for the kind words. David Cuny wrote the Property Sheet module and
the Tool Box module. I think they are terrific! And Dan Moyer has written a
replacement module for IDE_Code.ew that gives quick access to procedures and
functions within win32lib. Chime in here please, Dan, and advertise your
work.

I don't know anything about Linux so IDE would have to be converted by
someone else.

Thanks,

Judith

4. Re: IDE

Ok: as Judith mentions, I wrote a modification to her Ide_code.ew module
which provides the IDE user with drop down lists within the Code Editor of
all the Euphoria and Win32Lib routines, by categories, set up so that
selecting any of them automatically puts them into the clipboard for easy
pasting into the editor. It also allows jumping to the html help that is
specific for any selected routine. The version now at RDS works with
Win32Lib v 0.50 and IDE v 0.9k5, and includes a program to switch back and
forth between Judith's original Code Editor module and my modification.
I'll try to get a version that works with some of her more current versions
sent in to RDS sometime soon.

Sounds like a spelling mistake. The correct function is createEx().

8. IDE

I have a couple of questions to anyone using win95 and the X-IDE. A user
who has his machine partitioned into win95, win98, Linux and an extended
partition. Euphoria is installed in the extended partition and has the
following IDE problems.
1. using win95 partition is experiencing problems with the Open and Save
Dialog, specifically right clicking on a file name or switching to
another folder and clicking on the file to open.
2. using win98 partition is experiencing problems with the Save Dialog
and right clicking.

I only have access to a win98 machine and am not experiencing any of
these problems. If anyone is, please e-mail me privately and let me
know.

There *is* a problem with selecting the ? in the Dialogs but that is
fixed in the upcoming release.

Now, a question for you experts out there. Right now when user clicks
outside of IDE, it minimizes because it is not the active window. The
history behind this is I have 2 windows, PropertySheet and ToolBar that
have an ontop style. When clicking outside IDE or another application a
previous version of IDE would leave the ontop windows on the desktop.
Wolf told me about testing for IDE being the active window. That's the
way the last release stands. User wants the IDE to stay on the desktop
when he clicks the windows start button. Anyone know how I would know
that? Another problem occurs when he has "tiled" IDE with another
application; clicking on the other appication minimizes IDE, again
because IDE is not the active window. If I comment out the active window
test, the program works nicely except for the ontop windows being
present when they shouldn't. The only solution, if I can't isolate out
windows start button, is to add a method for the user to alter the
ontop-ness of the 2 windows before tiling or clicking outside the IDE. A
big pain. I've tried doing that internaly within IDE but without success
because I can't find a place to turn on the ontop-ness again. I tried
placing that in onGotFocus for the IDE but then user must click a
toolbar button twice to make it fire. Again, not nice.

Please send any ideas, suggestions to me.

Thanks
Judith

Judith,

IDE is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I especially like the ability to set the size of the IDE window on open.
Consolidating the congifuration onto a multi-tab window is excellent,
it puts it all in one place.

It really is exciting to see how far the IDE has come!

13. Re: IDE

The "Begin" section is also handy for putting version development
information, although maybe a separate section for that would be better, to
encourage people (like me!) to put "version x solved this problem, but
doesn't yet do this, & has this problem" kinda stuff? So maybe an
additional section called "Version info" or something? But just for the
main window, not in each controls event list.

14. Re: IDE

Judith,

Ok, but what I'm proposing is more than just a place for general program id
stuff; I'm suggesting a place for VERSION info, so that as problems are
identified & fixed in successive versions, information about what was fixed
& how it was fixed could be placed there, associated with the version
number, so that as a program is being developed, the programmer can have a
record of what was done in each version. When I do this, it helps some, and
when I don't, I wish I had!!

15. Re: IDE

Judith,

You're getting much more elaborate than what I had in mind, which will
probably yield something very nice for the IDE; I do like the idea of having
some specific place to put title, author, date, & current version, & would
suggest that they might better work as constants that get created by the IDE
after programmer enters the data (or pull version from filename?), so they
could be "automatically" included in any "About" window.

But all I was suggesting was another pseudo-event, like the (Begin),
(Intro), and (General) sections, perhaps called "Version History", where the
programmer could put comments about each version as different problems are
solved in each successive version. Right now I'm doing it in (Begin), which
works just fine, I just thought if there were a specific place named
"Version History" it would serve to help to remind people that commenting
what they're doing as they do it can be a good idea.

like this:
-- 4c2: begins to (hopefully!) process includes: moved processing out/above
-- openFile, & made list of includes, minus "known"; haven't yet
allowed
-- select/deselect from list, nor moved variables so the new procedure
-- could be called recursivly.

-- 4c3: seems to PROCESS the main & include files recursivly;
-- should maybe order them in the tv by "main" & includes?
-- did NOT seem to find parentage correctly with respect to parents
-- which were created in an include & then controls created elsewhere,
-- I THINK.
-- also DOESN'T seem to show all useful data correctly in mle

-- 4c3b: removed the KnownIncludes, replaced with check for is file in
folder

-- 4c4: made save (& therefore show in bottom textbox) name of file being
-- processed, including includes. mostly for "debug", to try to find
out
-- why some controls with parent "names" aren't associated with known
-- parents. processing includes that create a control & then creating
-- another control in main should allow the correct association; some
may
-- be because some parent "names" are actually VARIABLES containing a
-- name at one time or another, so the parent "name" isn't the same as
the
-- actual parent name when it is created? made the source filename
-- be just the filename & not pathfilename. not sure if I did anything
-- more in this version or not.

Dan Moyer

ps. I know, I can't spell "recursively" correctly! :)

16. Re: IDE

Hi,
unfortunately, RDS has not given us programmers a way to produce an EX.ERR
file unless we deliberately force an abnormal fault. In win32lib, I choose
to do this by dividing by zero. This means that the error message that comes
up - "divide by zero" - is misleading as this is NOT the real error. Its
just a way to force Euphoria to produce a debugging file.

You should have also seen a message box pop up with the real error message.
If you can let us know what that was, we might be able to be of more use to
you. However, as I can see it was from the createEx() routine, it could be
that you were using the wrong flags for the control you were creating. Try
running the program with the trace facility until you get to the control
causing the problem.

cheers,
Derek Parnell

18. Re: IDE

Thanks for advice. I saw the "get.e" file was displayed in yellow color. I
changed to "Get.e" and it was not highlighted in yellow. Was the yellow
color used to indicate that it was an error? I deleted the items in the
window and finally deleted the project file. I then started new and it
seemed to be ok. Perhaps the problem was that I developed the project on
Win98 and then moved it to winXP Pro. Was there a file that mispointed ???

19. Re: IDE

This is a teenie tiny bug in the syntax highlighting! see, get() is a
function, and also an include file, so the editor highlights it, thinking it
is a routine name. try creating a file called create.e and include it, then
see what color it changes!

20. IDE

I've found another bug in IDE in which 'default configuration' is Saved
even when the user has not requested that action.

I've updated IDE.zip at http://www2.txcyber.com/~camping/judith.html for
this fix and also made IDE.cfg and IDE_log.html files zip downloads.
Remember if you already have IDE.cfg you probably don't want to download
it again since it will overlay any Recent File entries and entries
locating the various docs on your system. If you choose to download
anyway, go to 'location of documentation' Menu Item
 to specify them.

A suggestion was made to incorporate the IDE_log.html into IDE.html so
that IDE can read it and I probably will eventually do that.

I am sorry for the bugs related to IDE.cfg file. It apparently was not
an area I tested very well.

21. IDE

I've uploaded to http://www2.txcyber.com/~camping/judith.html a new
version of IDE which addresses a problem with the Editor Controls combo
box and parenting of control within Table, and under some conditions,
within Tab Item and Group.

The problem with the conbo boxes came to light when a user had a great
number of controls. The combo box bottom was beyond the length of the
screen so the scroll bar was not usable to reach the end of the combo
box items.

The problem with parenting occured when the window had a Toolbar.

22. IDE

Hello,

I am using IDE V.18.6p and I am running a P4 with XP Pro. When I am in
code Editor I have tried to put the coding in the General in my Window1.
When I am editing a button click code . I cant find my "general" code. Do I
click on the drop down to get the general code and then ? I click on the
window to get the code editor and seem to get into the code. On the upper
right side of the code screen I see the eusql.e if available, what do I do
It's the only choice. Win32lib is susposed to be available. I run the
project and I get my screen and the buttons seem to work. A function that I
use and thought I put in general area seems to be working, however I can't
find the code right now.

Thanks for any help
