I have been a semi active member of this list for over two years now
and the trend I have noticed is a massive increase in in the volume
of messages combined with a large decrease in the amount of useful
and genuine programming discussion that goes on. Many people seem
to think this is some kind of chat room or smat-alec competition. I am still
convinced that this list is one of the best programming rescources I
have ever come accross, but the rubbish to info ratio is startingto blow
out at an alarming rate.

Has anybody else noticed the decrease in input from many of the more
accomplished programmers? I for one don't blame them, there hasn't
been much worth commenting on lately. I include this message I am now
writing in the 'rubbish' category (..messages like this, with no meaning ...)
and I hope nobody replys to this. I do however hope that people read
and consider this message.

If you have a programming question; please ask it. If you have an answer
to a question; please post it. If you have a good idea, or even a really good
joke; let us know. If you have a non-critical bug report, tell Rob or the
person whose work it is in, I'm sure they will be grateful. If you want to
have an intricate ecoteric discussion about a particular subject, find an
appropriate chat room or do it by private mail. If you want to spout off
and kid yourself that you're really smart; get a really stupid girl/boy-friend
- nobody else cares.

Sorry to add yet another non-programming post. I hope this is the last.

Graeme.
