Thanks for responding to my question.

RE: the tab key problem. I'll start a paper log of when this happens and
what program I am in. Should have done that before posting. One of the times
I know for sure is in a program that is basically a window with menus,
toolbar and status bar and includes your edit.ew (unmodified). Perhaps you
do something in IDE.exw that I've neglected to do....
