Two points:

1)  This is not JUST Norm Goundry's opinion.   It certainly isn't an
original idea.   I saw an interview with Bill Gates TWO YEARS AGO in which
he said that Microsoft is concerned that desktops are going to decline in
favour of all kinds of specialised smart appliances/computers and that their
R&D is very active in this area.

Additionally, this was how JAVA got started!!

2)  $30,000 is VERY LITTLE money for development.   E-letter just got 20
million dollars to develop the rough equivalent of electronic mass e-mail.
There are much, much bigger fish already working on the smart appliance
problems -- some are more or less "open" and some aren't !
