I mean the icon of the file myfile.ex or myfile.exw on the desktop or whatever
folder it's in.

Well yes to both . Shouldn't current_dir() and directory of file currently
being edited be the same?
MEditor and Mike's editor do not do this. The standard file open dialog
seems to open (by default) the directory that was the home of the last
file selected by that dialog box.
