RDS is back up

You commented on that when I brought it back online: https://openeuphoria.org/forum/135262.wc

Or was it down sometime between then and now that I wasn't aware of?

That was the most recent backup Rob had that he sent me. The site is online for prosperity but is effectively read-only.

I did not know that part. Sorry to bother.

There was a serial port file, serial.tar.gz, uploaded in 2009, by jacques_desch, that is no longer there, but it was for linux, which i do not use, so no worries here at the moment. The windows file is there.

The very last, final, update of RDS site was 1.03.2018.
Then addr.com, RDS host, stopped hosting for a while.
Never after that, RDS site was updated, be sure.

So there's to be NO user contributions at all for OE or Phix or Eu?

Well, i guess i can delete the lil code i whipped up today to do this (console printout) ...

Now changing (native OE variable) var1 with this trick...

<eucode>
  temp = "var1"
  strsetvar(temp,{12345,"tested string access to variables!",12})
  puts(1,"var1 = ") pretty_print(1,var1,{3})
</eucode>

var1 = {
  12345,
  "tested string access to variables!",
  12
}
Not vaporware, i sent it to someone else on this forum.

That's how it happens, and then you look for something on the site and find only a mention on the forum, or a dead link. It is sad

I have no plans to add any such feature, no. But you make it sound like we're banning contributions altogether, which certainly isn't the case.

I offered a variety of options in the other thread:

If you're looking for somewhere to host new Euphoria-related content then you will not find it on this website. I've considered it in the past but I think we've moved beyond the need for hosting on individual websites when there are so many good websites dedicated to that purpose. I suggest using Github, but you could also use Bitbucket, Gitlab, Sourceforge, etc. Then post a new topic on this forum to let everyone know about it. We can even post it to the news section for added visibility.

What you do with your code is up to you. But you won't accomplish much by waving things in front of people and then threatening to throw them away. We're not children, Kat.

Your open and honest dialog is welcome here, but vague threats and passive-aggressive posturing are not.

Please keep our Code of Conduct in mind before hitting that "post" button and remember that we are all here to work together, not against each other.

How what happens? On which site? What are you on about?

Same goes for you as I said for Kat in the comment above: please keep our Code of Conduct in mind when posting.

You're welcome to be critical but please do not be harmful and at the very least try to be specific.

Yes, you did. I am not seeing the good in spreading OE thinly as possible across the internet. I think Pete did amazing thing to post so much Phix on the Rosetta Stone page, but it attracted no more attention than OE has by the one Wikipedia page.

No disparagement intended towards "you" or "people" or "children", it's difficult for me to use precise enough wording to narrow-cast my meaning. I was addressing the methodology and not the messenger or the author.

Adding in the emotions of disappointment, sadness, and frustration (as echoed by AlexXX, and others i have talked to who won't bother posting here), may blur my intent or my counter message, but today the effect of not publishing here is the same as not publishing anywhere.

If someone accidently runs across a specialised feature published on a lone personal webpage as they look for a scratcher for their programming itch, but there's no durable network of accessable (pronounced like "non-github", et al.) links to all the rest of the OE/Phix language, and all the rest of the specialised features spread around the internet by individual contributors, i do not believe that they, me, you, or OE/Phix is helped. It's like watching some people install linux: visiting many sites for a particular flavor, then they search the internet again for a gui, then again for a file manager, then again for a browser, and then someone recommends something different, then they search for editors, and something breaks, something must be upgraded, something is abandoned... it's chaos. It's like downloading what looks like a long sought-for wonderful Eu app that includes win32lib, with no data on the version, or where it can be downloaded now. Or anything about titlebar.e, or sorttok(), or DCuny's diff(), or the missing serial.tar.gz.

Some people have given up begging for OE to improve, to catch up to 1995. Perhaps if those asking for more could be seen as people who want to use OE even more than they can now...? And then they notice OE.org isn't facilitating the use of the language to the best of it's potential?

10. Re: rapideuphoria.com

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I said that there should be a single database of programs with feedback, search and register on a bunch of sites (Bitbucket, Gitlab, Sourceforge, etc.) to download the program or write about an error. For example, on RDS Eu there is a library for working with dbf files in which the error, I once found, corrected and wrote to the author, but the corrected version did not appear on the site. Unfortunately I am more of a reader and an amateur application programmer and can only help with testing

The second -.DBF file (dBase) access routines 5K Daniel Berstein Nov 4/96
In 2007, I made an upload to a dbf file and the bank did not accept it until I corrected it. there is missing the filling of one field in the header (now I have already forgotten the details, and the source code is lost)

OK, I've put a quick note on there. If you do ever remember what it was, I trust you'll update/replace that message.
