I hadn't known about Zim - it looks really useful, and produces really clean html code easily.
More explanation about how to install the extension would be appreciated.

yes, there is a dearth of useful documentation at the moment. It's on the list, near the top.
But in the interim, Zim has a lot of online helps and a discussion of their custom tools mechanism can be found at https://zim-wiki.org/manual/Help/Custom_Tools.html
