When rapideuphoria is too slow, you can try PCAN - but do not blame me if it is even slower!
Files actually hosted on rapdieuphoria will still be a problem, unless copies of them get uploaded to PCAN (as per eg Win32lib7ForPhix)

You can edit each one by hand, and upload individual files to PCAN, easily enough. Unfortunately there are something like 1500 rds-hosted entries.
Perhaps, looking at http://phix.x10.mx/pmwiki/pmwiki.php?n=Catagory.Rds-hosted, individual volunteers could pick themselves (/and post here) a starting letter, to break that down a bit, and remove the [[!rds-hosted]] tag on each entry once some alternate link is in place.
You could (theoretically) also write a standard program to find/replace things, download the entire site, modify it, and re-upload it - which is pretty much how I got it up there in the first place.
Before leaping off either of those particular cliffs though, questions of speed, uptime, long term survival, mirror sites, propagating updates, admins/caretakers, etc should probably all be debated.
For instance, is anyone else interested in and capable of hosting a copy of the entire PCAN pmwiki (currently just less than 15MB when zipped), and maybe some ideas about synchronizing updates?
FYI, I have no problem if someone wants to take a snapshot, today, then run off and do their own completely independent thing with it, either.

A very good point, Pete. I think we should host it here. Let's add an "Archive" tab at the top and adapt (and improve) the original archive function from RDS.

Just a note about the Wayback machine: don't count on it.
Thousand of website archives have disappeared from there, mostly because of "name squatting".
If we need anything from rapideuphoria, and Rob isn't going to renew it, better download it before the registration expires, because odds are, the Wayback archive will be gone soon after, to be replaced with ads or porn.

It has gone down several times before, and not been back up until a few days later.
I assume that in the past godaddy (or whoever) rebooted one of their servers, and probably did so because someone on the same cluster other than Rob kicked up a fuss, or a cron job.
I also seriously doubt that Rob would deliberately just abandon it without at least offering it here. Then again, sinkholes happen...
Perhaps I should say that I started PCAN partly for similar fears, but more so that I could have a phix section, and update/comment/combine/regroup/rename/reject/hide entries, etc.
Having an alternative (or two), along with a bit of reorganization and cleanup, is no bad thing though, and obviously now is better than never.

It's unfortunate we haven't made regular backups - or more specifically, complete downloads - in the past. There are a lot of packages listed on RDS which are no longer available, since they were off-site links, and those sites have disappeared.

I found a bunch of files that were just "500 Internal Server Error". Re-downloading those now. Some are "400 Bad Request" and it doesn't seem like they can be retrieved right now.

No I don't mind at all. My hosting service can take it just fine. I had about 610 MB downloaded over 1,965 files.

I think I'd rather put my efforts toward updating our existing site so we can get off the RDS site for hosting uploads.

There is a fairly strictly enforced file size limit of 10MB - nothing to stop you uploading something bigger but they run a cron job that deletes all >10MB files every day.
Apparently the only bandwidth limit is 1M/s
I am currently using 335MB out of 512MB, but I can ask for that to be doubled (and later re-doubled), and I'm sure there are a few things I could delete.

There would be a cost for that, and it would be unfair of the community to ask you to shoulder that alone. As far as file size goes, I think there were only 9 over that limit, which could be broken down into smaller chunks.
