Sounds good. Does it work on linux or macs? My business clients are all dumping windows since new computers started shipping with win 8. I'm busy converting all their utility programs to run real computers:)

GNU/Linux support is planned and IIRC partly in the works. I'd imagine that the GNU/Linux code would just work on the OS/X platform for OpenEuphoria if the right libraries are installed (e.g. libX11).

Hi

hmm, your business clients dumping Windows? I never heard off something like this, except in some small companies using special software solutions.

I work for a, let's say 'bigger company', and no one even think about dropping Windows (or better MS-Office).

Even Munich (I'am German) think about going back from Linux to Windows (and they really tried hard to use Linux).

Or are you talking about Google? and Android? (but this has nothing todo with real computers :) )

I'am really interested which company will change Windows to Linux?

Andreas

Like Wal-mart?

Agreed, it's rare that an entire platform will be dropped outright entirely. (In either direction.) What's most common is that there's a complex ecosystem of different machines, each running critical (and often custom) software for a single purpose.

Not just Windoze v GNU/Linux, but often specialized things like QNX or even the descendents of mainframe systems like the z900 and it's relative, the AS/400.

GNU/Linux seems to be popular with RDP thin clients to Windoze servers - I've seen a lot of Wyse thin clients out there. Of course, I've also seen Windows CE handhelds used as portable telnet clients to a Unix server.

Most bizarrely, McDonalds still seems to be using SCO Unix. http://www.mpasystems.com.au/vendor/sco/sco-openserver-6 And they've been doing so for years. http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r9608554-McDonalds-SCO-Tech

(or better MS-Office).

I admit that this one I don't quite get. It's so easy to replace it with LibreOffice or another alternative.

Haven't heard that, but I'd certainly like to know more about it!

I don't know about that, I think it's possible to dump conventional desktop/laptop computers and replace them entirely with Android phones. But perhaps that's a story for another time...

Well, thanks for the compliment. :) I have been using Redy for a diagnostics utility at work, and it has been very stable. Unfortunately, i haven't had much time to work on the next release of Redy in the last 6 months. I wasn't sure if anyone else was even using it, since it's incomplete and poorly documented at this point. Over the next few months, i will be working on event logging and displaying data as charts for this program at work, which will help me develop more Redy features.

I am going to start porting Redy to linux over the next few months, as well as finishing RedyCode and RhodaPlot, and making many improvements to redylib.

Yes, Walmart is heavily anti-union so that's no surprise. Unrelated to the use or adoption of GNU/Linux.

No says the council, in spite of numerous reports to the contrary. Suggestions the council has decided to back away from Linux are wrong, according to council spokesman Stefan Hauf.

Turns out we have an old thread about this topic as well, started by Kat no less: http://openeuphoria.org/forum/80003.wc#80003

Here's some more recent information:

http://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2423164/munich-officials-are-sick-of-linux-and-want-windows-back (despite the url, the article is actually a rebuttal)

http://www.ocsmag.com/2015/08/24/no-munich-is-not-considering-ditching-linux-and-going-back-to-windows/

In short, the City of Munich holds an annual review (that is, one every year) regarding its IT. Back in 2003, the switch to GNU/Linux/LiMux was made during one such review. And naturally, any decision to switch back could be made in another, future review.

However, the City has consistently chosen to stay with LiMux. In fact, the most recent complaint was not concerned with moving away from GNU/Linux/LiMux but a couple of exemptions to having Windoze for a few unspecified (but implied to be minor) use cases.
