Nobody's replied to my previous post about disappearing buttons, so I'm = asking again. What's going on here? Does anybody need to see the code? Michael J. Sabal mjs at osa.att.ne.jp http://home.att.ne.jp/gold/mjs/ PS: I just bought a new K56flex modem, but it runs slower than my = 14.4K. The connection rate is 34K, but sometimes I can't even get to = the DNS server with it. The slower one has no problems (unless I'm = downloading a 12Meg file:( ) Any ideas?

It came with an updated V90/k56flex driver so it could pick between the two but I was getting connects of 26400, 24000, and if I was lucky 32000. I went the Diamond's site and emailed the Tech who first gave me some init strings to try and then gave me the old driver. Niether of these worked for me. But I installed a generic Motorola k56flex driver that connected faster.. it just didn't transfer faster. As far as the modem problem goes there are 3 different 56k protocals in use, make shure your using the same one as your isp. also there are a variable number of a-d and d-a conversions between your phone and the phone companies central computer, 56k protocals take advantage of the situation in wich there is only one conversion, more than one and you'll only get 33.6 at best, which you should be getting performance that a 33.6k in the same instalation would get you unless there's some in the 56k negotion at some point causing the modem to use bad settings. Also some 'win-modems' won't work right without win95 or better because they depend on windows to do some of the work the hardware in other modems doese. (they're set up like that to save the manufacturere money on the hardware they install on the modem, then they make a big deal about win95 compatablilty etc.) You might try disabling the 56k functionality and see if it works as just a 33.6. if it doese it's probably a compatibility isue with your isp or just maybee the phone companies equipment. and of course always check the manufacturer's web site for info on your problem and updated drivers. Thank you everyone who offered help about the buttons and my modem = problem. Rather than waste any more time trying to make it work, I'm = just going to take it back to the store and try to get my money back = (good luck :/). Sorry for taking so long to get it there -- I just wanted to put = together some kind of documentation -- the alpha version of ewinhelp is = now on my homepage. You can get it from Since my last release of Store Manager, I have been focusing on the help = utility, so I haven't done anything else that's releasable yet. But I'm = going to work on the Sales menu as promised before continuing with the = help utility. Maybe by that time, someone will have more light to shed = on the buttons problem, and maybe some little elf will have done the = help utility while I was sleeping (it IS public domain :)) In Christ, Michael J.
